Florence

Updated: Oct 1, 2022

Florence is really so beautiful, and way more relaxed, compared to Rome! We took a train from Rome, and the process was seamless. Unfortunately, Laney was sick while we were in Florence. I spent one entire day, inside with her. Her not feeling her best, sort of , derailed our visit. However, there are still many things to highlight.

ACCOMMODATION

We used AirBnB for our stay in Florence. I really liked where we stayed. It's suited for a larger group, it could easily fit 8 people. The building was beautiful, and walking distance to everything. See exterior of our place, below.

FOOD

Coffee Mantra | The best coffee ever! I walked here, every morning for coffee and a pastry. It was so yummy. Fernando also enjoyed lunch with Leighton, when Laney was sick. Fiorino d'Oro | We had lunch and a coffee here. It is located inside the Piazza della Repubblica, so the girls were able to run around and ride the carousel while waiting for our food. The food isn't award winning, but when traveling with kids this place works!

Vivoli | One of the best authentic gelatos I have ever had. So delicious!! Gelateria Edoardo | They change their flavors, regularly. You can't go wrong with any of them. I almost always have pistachio gelato, if it is an option. Theirs was great!

Gelateria Della Passera | Known for their pistaschio gelato, and it did not disappoint.

ACTIVITIES

Gelato Tour | We were set to do this tour as a family, but I am so glad we didn't. I do not feel it is kid-friendly. We booked it via AirBnB. It seems the experience is no longer available for booking. I have highlighted the best gelato stops, above. We learned all about authentic gelato, and boy has it made me a gelato snob. Ha!

Carousel | The carousel at Piazza della Repubblica was visited frequently during out stay.

Ponte Vecchio | This was so unique! I didn't go into any of the shops, but I loved waking by all of the speciality shops, and seeing all of the artisans' work.

The Duomo | What a sight!! Truly breathtaking, during the day and at night. You are able to go to the top, for incredible views, but good luck with all of the steps! My MIL and her sister did it, and thought it was great! If we didn't have the girls, I would do it.

Do you love gelato, as much as we do? If so, what is your favorite flavor?
