As most of you saw, last week, we are moving back to the United States this summer. We are so excited, because we are moving back to North Carolina! For those that do not know, I was born and raised in North Carolina. It has all four seasons. It has beaches. It has mountains. It has the TAR HEELS!! Fernando and I met in college there, back in 2005. North Carolina is just so special to us! Some may wonder why NC and not FL...for us it was a no brainer. We wanted our kids to grow up with their cousins and their families. Florida is amazing! Fernando loves being able to wear flip flops, year round. It just doesn't have our families. The girls had so much fun playing with their cousins and my brother, over the Christmas break. It made Fernando and I so happy to see, also. We are so thankful for this opportunity to live closer to our families. As for our new home. I've been asked twice, when someone hears we bought a house, "Did you buy it on Amazon?! That was fast!!" We did a lot of research leading up to our trip. Fernando and I both knew we wanted to build, again. Before we flew back, we had narrowed it down to five different communities. One night we ranked the five. We both shared the same #1, and the others were basically all different. Guess what? The #1 is the one we went with. We loved it. For me, it just felt right. Even Laney said "I think we have a winner!!" :)
I am so excited to pick all of the interior items out, soon. I have a spreadsheet with every selection, down to light switches and outlets. Ha!!! I want no surprises on the day of selections. I truly love all things house and decorating, so this is really fun for me. I will take you on the journey. The only things, I can share now, are the exterior elevation and the exterior colors - see below.
As for the hood...I really liked this neighborhood, because it wasn't too big. It has access to Lake Norman. It will have a pool. It is zoned for good schools. It is close to Downtown Davidson. I could go on and on. The floor plan itself met all of our needs. It has a space downstairs, for a home office and a gym. We added a sunroom, which will be our playroom. It has 4 bedrooms upstairs, one for all of us, plus guests. I love the elevation. The lot has mature trees in the back. Truly, it was just the perfect fit, for our family.
Since I love decorating, I have started some design boards. I have two for each space, which you can choose...this or that? I mentioned in my stories, last week, Fernando and I have similar, but also different styles. I do like and appreciate the new trendy style. Fernando does not. He said it reminds him of Aldi. Ha!
We are very excited for this journey, and I hope you will follow along! :)
Have you built a home before? What did you like or not like? If you could build your home, what would your must-haves be?
