I talked about what I miss about the US, but there are many things I love about living in Germany. Below, I have outlined the things I love most!
Travel | This is a no brainer. Being able to travel Europe was the number one reason we took this expat assignment. Our kids have been to 19 countries, next month will mark 20 (we are heading to Sweden). Exposing them to different cultures, food, etc, is so rewarding.
Safety | It is so safe here. I have never felt unsafe. To give you an idea, there are 6 year olds that ride the train, by themselves. Most kids ride their bikes to school, by themselves.
School | The girls' school is fantastic. They are outside, as much as, they are inside. Laney has officially received her hammer and saw license. They teach them so many great life skills, from cooking to gardening. Leighton loves making snacks for her classmates. Laney knows more about flowers and gardens, than I do! Laney has said many times, she will miss ISD when we move back to the US - so will I girl, so will I. The support we have received from the families, at ISD, has been so special. There is nothing like our expat community! I have made friends for life; some really feel like family!
Playgrounds | There is a spielplatz aka playground around every corner. They aren't like the playgrounds you see in the US, they all are so unique. Whether a pirate ship, a ropes course, super slides, etc. They all are unique and fun for hours.
Outdoorsy and Active | I find that Germans are very outdoorsy. They love their gardens and they love getting a good hike in. On Sunday, all stores are closed, and you will find a lot of people out and about on trails and relaxing by the river.
Ready to laugh?! I asked the girls what they like the most.
